Scientometrics is one of the most common methods of evaluating scientific activities and was used to measure science at the national and international levels. Continuous publication of scientometric indicators that describe research in different scientific communities can be a useful and efficient element for research and policy management and how to allocate budgets and facilities in science. Scientometrics can help balance the budget and economic costs to some extent and thereby increase the efficiency of research. Quantitative evaluation of sciences that lead to fertility and development can be a great help for officials and planners so that they can make the most of financial and human resources with less cost and be effective in optimizing the economic-social structure of the country. In addition to looking for quantitative aspects of science and research, scientometrics also measures and determines the criteria of various managerial and organizational aspects of science. On a broader level, scientometrics can be seen as one of the effective factors of the continuous circulation of research activities in any scientific field that directly deals with the quantitative evaluation of science.
Scientometric work is based on the examination of four basic variables, including authors, scientific publications, references and references. Scientometrics aims to show the characteristics of science and scientific research by using separate examination of these variables with a suitable combination of indicators based on these variables.
