Citation metrics for journals indexed in the Scopus and JCR databases for 2025 have been announced.
Journal Citation Reports (JCR), a product of Clarivate Analytics, has released the latest edition of journal Impact Factors for 2025. Previously, the Scopus citation database—owned by Elsevier—had also announced its 2025 CiteScore metrics for journals. Both CiteScore and Impact Factor are reputable metrics used to evaluate and rank scientific journals; however, while the Impact Factor calculates the average number of citations to articles published in a journal over the past two years, CiteScore considers a four-year period.

News : Ranking Ranking results for the country's universities of medical sciences based on the SCImago global ranking system for the year 2026, and a comparison with the year 2025.
Last update: 2026/08/15
Results of the 2026 SCImago Global Ranking System and a Comparison with 2025
The "SCImago Ranking 2026"—a globally recognized authority for evaluating the performance of universities and educational institutions—assesses institutional performance based on a composite model comprising three primary dimensions:
- Research Performance (weighted at 50%)
- Innovation Outputs (weighted at 30%)
- Societal Impact, or Web Visibility (weighted at 20%)
In this system, research data is analyzed over a five-year period (concluding two years prior to the ranking year). To qualify for inclusion, an institution must have at least 100 works indexed in the Scopus database during the final year of this period, with the requirement that at least 75% of these works qualify as citable documents.
According to the 2026 ranking results:
- Tehran University of Medical Sciences ranks 701st globally, securing the top position among the country's medical universities.
- Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences ranks 1891st globally, taking the second position.
- Tabriz University of Medical Sciences ranks 2518th globally, placing third.
Furthermore, the report indicates that Golestan University of Medical Sciences ranks 8184th, placing 26th.
It should be noted that 78% of the country's medical universities were included in this ranking system.

News : Ranking Holding the first meeting of the University Ranking Systems Working Group
Last update: 2026/09/19
The first meeting of the working group on university ranking systems at Golestan University of Medical Sciences was held on September 14, 2026 (Shahrivar 23, 1405), at the office of the university’s Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology.

The inaugural meeting of the Working Group on University Ranking Systems at Golestan University of Medical Sciences was held on Monday, September 14, 2026 (Shahrivar 23, 1405). The meeting took place at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology and was attended by Dr. Abbas Badakhshan (Director of the University President’s Office), Dr. Gholamreza Roshandel (Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology), Dr. Danial Bagheri (Director of International Affairs for the University Campus), Dr. Motahareh Hassani (Secretary of the Working Group), and other members of the working group.
Given the significance of a university’s presence and standing within international ranking systems—as well as the necessity of achieving scientific authority—the Ministry of Health’s Vice-Chancellery for Research and Technology has designated this area as a key indicator for the annual performance evaluation of research and technology activities across the nation's universities of medical sciences.
Since several of the criteria required for inclusion in international ranking systems pertain to various other units, vice-chancelleries, and departments within the university, success in this domain necessitates effective, cross-departmental collaboration. Consequently, a working group has been established—chaired by Dr. Mohsen Ebrahimi (President of the University) and coordinated by the Vice-Chancellery for Research and Technology—with the objective of securing membership in international ranking systems, improving the university’s standing, and attaining scientific authority.
During this session, the attendees engaged in discussions and exchanged views regarding the specific indicators used for assessment and their impact on university rankings.

Last update: 2026/10/5
According to the Public Relations Office of the Deputy for Research and Technology at the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, the results of the 2027 Times World University Rankings have been announced. In this prestigious global ranking, 26 Iranian universities of medical sciences have successfully secured a position.
This edition of the ranking includes 26 universities of medical sciences (excluding Shahed University). Five universities appear in the ranking for the first time, while 15 have returned to the list. It is worth noting that 15 universities of medical sciences, which were included in the 2026 edition, failed to secure a ranking in 2027; this was due to internet disruptions that prevented them from uploading the required documentation within the specified timeframe.
Golestan University of Medical Sciences has secured a place in this year’s ranking, falling within the 801–1000 band.
The 2027 Times ranking results highlight the strong presence of Iran’s universities of medical sciences in the global competitive arena. Key achievements in this edition include Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences securing the top position among the group for the third consecutive year, improvements in the rankings of the universities of Tehran and Shiraz, and the return of institutions such as Golestan and Arak universities to the list. It is hoped that by addressing infrastructural obstacles and fostering broader participation from universities, the nation’s academic standing on the international stage will continue to rise.
